Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Goodday, i bought a 1970 vw beetle not too long ago, after fixing the wiring
the engine would sometimes crank, sometimes nothing.
thought it could be a faulty starter, at least thats what the seller said.
put in the new starter. tried to crank heard two clicks?Ticks? and now
nothing..

does anyone have an idea?
thanks in advance

Battery gives 12,6 volts. connections arent always that tight, but when i cranked they werent either.. thanks :D

just touched the two wires on the starter and they both have spark, do i still need to tighten the connections on the battery? thankyou

The mess you see is the wiring, don't know if it helps any :) tested all connection and everything seems to work. All grounding straps are tight and secure

Sounds like a short. Take a pushbutton switch. Wire one side of the switch to the starter. Wire the other side of the switch to the positive side of the battery. Turn on the ignition switch and push the button. Car should start every time. This is the same thing you would use on a motor boat.
