Just replaced the clutch in a type 1 beetle engine that is in my trike. When I push down on pedal it seems to suddenly jump and when released can't ride the clutch. help

Question type: General

Pedal feels like it suddenly either is engaged or disengaged so when trying to
pull away you jerk forward and can not hold it on the clutch on a hill. Engine is
an 1300 twin port from a 71 - 73 modal but gearbox is from a pre 71 modal.

Did you replace the through out bearing also AND did you resurface the fly wheel. Also make sure you adjusted the clutch cable properly with little free play

Hi. I replaced the throw out bearing, friction plate and pressure plate. Also replaced the bearing release arm. Did not resurface the fly wheel. Have not got a clutch cable as was replaced with a s/steel rod before I obtained the trike. Was thinking about installing a hydraulic system.

Hi. Yes I managed to solve the problem. The fix was the replacement clutch kit I was sold as a direct replacement didn't fit. After getting an exact duplicate of the clutch that was in it the problem was solved. I took what was left of the old clutch into the shop the first time and they assured me that even though the new kit didn't look the same it was a direct replacement. The one I needed had 3 release levers on the cover plate. Hope this helps. Dave.
