2016 Sentra knock when slowing down or coming to a stop
Asked by Ed Jan 03, 2019 at 10:56 PM about the 2016 Nissan Sentra SL
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hello out there. I have a 2016 Nissan Sentra and recently, when I slow to a
stop, brakes or not, i hear a knock and then when touching the gas, I hear it
again. More specifically, when slowing down into second, the knock is heard
once and then when almost coming to a stop or stopping, you hear it again.
I don't think it's the brakes, or suspension as I can hit the brakes hard while
sitting at a light or push the car back and fourth from behind and it makes no
noise at all.
I hope you can help!!

Hi Ed,i may can help you ,sound,s like your issue is a bad engine or transmission mount.
You mean, the rubber block the engine sits on? I didn't think of that one. Where would the rubber mounts be for the transmission? It actually sounds more like a LOUD click. I had an old staturn a decade ago and needed to replace the motor mount but that was a completely different sound. All help is appreciated :-)
Hi Ed I had this same issue on my 2016 sentra, they replaced a part in the rear that is tied to the transmission. I don’t quite remember what it was. But the part was faulty and covered under my warranty.
I had what sounds like this same issue fixed at the dealership today. It was always 2 clicks... one when slowing down and one when accelerating again. It was a C-clip on the front axle near the transmission that was giving "too much play." They fixed it for an hour's labor. They adjusted the C-clip and greased it. It drove fine all night... No more clicking!
GuruQRDRZ - Have you had any issues since? My car is doing the same, it's a 2018 but I just got my vehicle 6 months ago.
I believe the problem might be loose front CV axle nut at wheel hub. My son had same problem on 2016 Sentra and would make clicking noise on accelerating/decelerating/putting in gear. Quick fix if it is that. Just remove wheel and retighten nut.
This seems like too much of a 'coincidence' for it to be an isolated issue. Anyone contact Nissan consumer affairs about the issue? My car is currently disabled around the corner from where I live as the shutter/knocking has disabled all power to the front wheel drive. Unsure of the issue, but the above seems to fit what's wrong with my car. Literally drive it 2 hours round trip, no issues, sat for a day & a half, let it warm up, dive around the corner for a delivery for work. Left the car running. When I got back in reverse almost went forward, put it in neutral to push it out of the parking spot, got the car to go about 30 feet before the accelerator was just burning gas and I had to push it back into a parking spot. Seems like a known issue on the cvt engines worthy of a recall, not a warranty matter, as it is an obvious design flaw. Car just hit 105k+ miles (thought I'd need to change the transmission fluid sooner than recommended, but this just happened). Asked about this before finding this, not sure if the above is my answer as well. Any assistance on what the issue might be is appreciated. Getting it looked at first thing in the morning 1/18/21
