Key Wont Turn Ignition on my Honda Civic Please Help

Asked by Mechan_chick Feb 08, 2017 at 04:27 AM about the 2003 Honda Civic Coupe DX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

For the past few days my 2003 Honda Civic dx with
manual transmission  has died several times, but
starts after a jump. I know Im in need for a new
battery. Earlier today my key wouldn't turn the
ignition; it doesnt move at all.

After some research I disassembled the ignition
switch and lock cylinder housing assembly.  I was
able to start my car after getting a jump by turning
on just the ignition switch without my key, but my
wheel locked. I took apart the ignition lock and
unlocked the wheel. Now when I try starting my car
after getting a jump the engine cranks but it wont
catch.

I think something happened with the anti theft
immobilizer when I took apart the ignitiom lock
cylinder. I have no idea how to get my car started.
Is there anything I can try without taking it to the
dealership and/or a mechanic? I have no way to
get to work and am stranded. please help!!

You stripped your own steering column and tried to start the car without the key. Of course the anti-theft is active. (on top of a bad battery.) If you have your master key you can reset the alarm, but who knows what you did to the lock cylinder and wiring. Get ahold of an owner's manual so you can consult the disarm procedure at least.
