Friggin' Airbag system SRS light is on!!

i don't understand how the seat belt buckle can set off the air bag light

there is a sensor in the buckle that will be activated when the buckle is plugged in. have you changed your steering wheel? if so some times you will have to find the resistance of your airbag and go on ebay and get a resistor that has the same ohmic resistance to just fool your ecu into thinking there is an airbag there. but yeah replace the sensor first and if for whatever reason dosent work then plug a code reader in and then google the code see what it says there cause who knows could be something completely different.

It's been a while but yes the SRS light issue was caused by the driver's side seat belt receptacle micro-switch. To fix it, I first removed the safety pins located in the center of the two torx head screws that hold the two halves of the female belt receptacle together. Then, cut the rubber grommet off with a blade that surrounds the black micro-switch and sprayed a bunch of silicone spray (liquid wrench I think) and worked the switch in and out a bunch of times. Replaced the two halves and proceeded to clear the SRS light using the paper clip trick (look it up on youtube). The SRS light never returned back on, awesome!!

Could this have anything to do with power drain? I have had the battery and the alternator checked out ok. These old Honda Civics can be great cars for the kids but they both have had the same issues. One is a 1997 and one is a 2022.

Did you read all of the entries? It’s most likely the micro-switch inside the driver side seat belt receptacle.

You can buy a safety torx bit that has the hole in the center of the star as well instead of physically removing the pins. I chose to remove the pins by hitting them downward with a small flathead screwdriver.

Do you guys have any links as to where I can purchase the buckle? I've had a hard time finding it online.

A salvage yard or junk yard or sometimes people are “parting out” cars and will sell anything and everything on Craigslist. Maybe Rock Auto? Try separating the two halves of the old buckle, locate the tiny rubber grommet with a pin in the center that moves in and out when the seat belt gets inserted or removed. Cut the grommet with a blade but leave the pin then spray with WD40 or some other silicone lubricant. Move the pin in and out and reassemble. Then look up on YouTube how to clear the SRS light on a Honda Civic.

Hey guys, I know this is kind of old but I bought a 98 civic and the srs light is on, I think I found the problem as under the drivers side seat theres a set of wires with a Male plug on the end, where does that go?

If the seat belt sensor is faulty, wouldn't that also cause the belt unbuckled warning to fail as well?
