2001 taurus sesshifting problem

today when I pulled out of driveway and started to drive down  the street car took right off with no problems then when it went to sift into second gear it felt like the car was in neutral. no problem with reverse or 1st gears at all goes into both and when I step on the gas it moves with no hesitation at all.

1st and reverse share the same clutch drum , second gear is a different drum , my guess is you will need a new transmission , hate to be the bearer of bad news ,

Taurus' Achilles' heel is there transmission (and torque converter). Agree with above, your transmission is failing. Start looking now for a replacement or dump the car while it can still move.
