Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last night I was driving up a hill and all of a sudden
I could no longer press on my gas, right after my
steering went out and then the whole car died. My
lights and windows still work so it's not my battery.
When I try to start it my car makes a humming
sound but will not start. Please help lol

even tho the windows and lights still work, it is possible it's still could be the battery. that's easy enough to check. Also, could be the alternator or ignition switch (electrical probs are more difficult to find). Hope this helps.

So we tried to jump it and it did nothing. I've recently replaced my alternator belt and my fuel pump. How could I check the alternator and ignition switch. Thank you!

Hayley, did you get the issue resolved? If so, what was the fix? I’m having exactly the same issue with my 2001 1.8L Passat; it fires up fine, ran for a couple minutes while driving, then died and only hums (at the starter) but won’t turn over. All other electrical appears gone.
