2009 Hyundai Elantra- Engine Seized- What to do?
My 2009 Hyundai Elantra has 170K miles, and without any warning at all, after
being a basically good, problem-free car, the engine seized, and must be
replaced. I do mean there was absolutely NO warning at all—there were no
lights on that I was ignoring, no strange sounds, nothing. The Blue Book value
is only around $1200, and the cost to replace the engine with a used engine is
$2550, and I don’t know if it’s worth it. I don’t know what caused it to seize,
though, so how would I know a different engine wouldn’t also just seize up
again? Not sure what to do. My budget for a new used car is only around 5K,
so don’t know if I should get the engine replaced, or get another cheap,
potentially problem-ridden vehicle. Any advice, opinions, recommendations
would be greatly appreciated.
