Why does my Accord shut off periodically.

Asked by The_Mrs Sep 17, 2014 at 12:26 PM about the 1995 Honda Accord LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It happened the first time after a 60 mile trip...as soon as i got off the interstate it went silent.  The a/c was still blowing and the radio playing.  It happened most recently when I was backing out of a steep driveway.  Once I reached the bottom of the driveway it went silent.  It happens maybe once per week, usually when I get in the car and drive off immediately.  I was told by a non-professional mechanic that it may be the "shift control solenoid" or "shift sensor" as he called it.  Please help.

Non-professional is putting it politely. A shift solenoid has nothing to do with the engine quitting on you. Do you habitually drive very low on gas?

i had a 93 accord a while back that sounds about the same problem. it ended up being a security box up underneath the driver side dash that a dealer probably put in so it couldnt be taken off the lot. it was a chip that came off of yellow and blue wires and would cut me out driving up my driveway on my way to work in the mornings. the chip was almost like a key if it was not in you couldnt start the car but unce my chip burnt out it became very week until i just ended up splicing the wires together.

I had an 89 Honda Accord that would do that there's just one little screw that it just sits on the air flow sensor or air flow throttle sensor I'm not real good with the names but I know where it's at if you would just that you'll fix your problem it's a simple fix and I didn't believe it either and then a dude showed me and I drove my car to hell and back
