Cooling system problems!

Asked by Jason Feb 12, 2022 at 11:55 AM about the 2016 Kia Soul EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. A deer was hit in my 2016 Kia Soul. It appears my
radiator has bent slightly on the driver side and it seems
to be leaking from the top right corner where there's some
sort of bolt with rubber stoppers and a hose connected to
the back of the corner. There's another bolt of the same
kind on the other side that looks like it. I noticed the
coolent was low so I put in coollent and stop leak and let it
sit overnight. After driving for 20 min today my car said it
was overheating and then the guage went to below C and
check engine light is on. I noticed smoke coming from the
top corner of the radiator where the leak appears to be
also I noticed the stop leak grey sealent stuff around that
area of the top driver side corner of radiator. There was no
visible loss of fluid in the fluid level after the 20 min drive
and also my heat does not work as well. Please help. Also
after this drive I noticed my radiator cap was barley warm
almost cold to the touch.

My suggestion is to replace the radiator, flush the cooling system to eliminate most if not all of the stop leak, bleed and refill the cooling system. You should also replace any grill or other damaged part on the vehicle. You can also contact your insurance company as well, a deer hit is covered under comprehensive insurance.

Sounds like the "hit" may have blocked off some or all of the flow of coolant through the radiator. I would check into having the radiator swapped out or, at least flow tested.

It might be a damaged radiator. replace it and see.
