Both Key FOBs are not working in my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Asked by moroz_2016 Mar 05, 2017 at 09:11 PM about the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Vehicle was running fine until we parked at a friends place.  We exited the
vehicle and tried to lock it but nothing happened. Then we went back inside
and tried to start it and it won't start. then we went to exit the vehicle and
were locked inside and the alarm went off.  Alarm would not stop until extra
emergency  key was used to unlock the door from the outside.  The friends
have been having issues for the last two weeks at their property , they also
have a 2013 RAM 1500.  What is going on??

Replace the battery in the keys... These transmitters get depleted quickly.. if this doesn't work, see the dealership. Your car is probably still under warranty?

Did you ever get resolution to your problem regarding both fobs not working while at your friend's residence? I have the same issue. If I park my vehicle away from my home, both fobs work...if I park near my home or in my driveway, both fobs stop working.

Same thing happened here in Lloydminster, Canada. We parked at an Esso gas station. I had the fob so I tried to lock door by pushing button. Didn’t work, no worry so I tried to use fob. Nothing. So I opened door and locked door and waited for a beep. Nothing, so I thought everything was good. Came out after lunch, fob didn’t unlock, door handle didn’t unlock, so I used the key. Opened door and alarm went off and continued for what seemed like forever. No message saying fob battery was low, but thought to try that. Went into gas station to get a battery and the worker told me my battery wasn’t dead and that this happens regularly, especially dodges. Solution: got into vehicle held fob in hand and pushed start button with fob. Started immediately. She said if that doesn’t work, use the key in same fashion. Message said fob was not in vehicle and so we drove in parking lot and then stopped Jeep. Started normally and message was gone!!!!! She said something about frequencies being crossed or something.
