Popping/clicking noise

Asked by GuruQHFZ Apr 27, 2017 at 07:15 PM about the 2007 Mazda MAZDA3 GS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has recently starting making a
popping/clicking noise when I drive slow. Noise
seems to go away after I hit 30 mph. It sounds a bit
like popping popcorn. Hard to tell where it's coming
from but I know it's from the front end of my car.
Car recently got a tune-up. Nothing was seemingly
wrong.. but of course it stopped making the noise
the second it got to a shop so the mechanic
couldn't hear it and then oise came back two days
later. It doesn't have to do with my steering, turning,
or brakes. It doesn't get worse with any of those
actions. It just happens when I am driving slow. Any
ideas?

Popping, clicking comes from the front axle CV-Joint. Look for torn boots, check the CV-Joints.

I have a similar problem, when you drive forward and then start to stop you can hear a tapping sound on the driver front tire/break side. I have taken it to 3 different places and they have no idea what it could be. doesn't happen when your backing up. I already put in new rotors, breaks and bearings.

GuruW8KNP did you ever figure this out? The description is spot on for what I'm experiencing. Have already replaced both half shafts. Could it be intermediate shaft?
