1996 Chevy k1500 will only run on 7 cylinders

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
So my truck randomly dies while driving. It's a '96 k1500 5
speed 5.7. It was running great, recent tune up, and
randomly dies while driving down the road. I was
checking for spark and when I did it started right up. I was
checking spark by grounding the spark plug and while
doing so is when it started. But if I put the plug back in
and hook the spark plug wire back on it will NOT start. It
will only run if I leave the one spark plug wire unplugged.
So long story short my truck will only start if I make it run
on 7 cylinders, when I try to do 8 it just turns over and
won't fire. Never have even heard a problem like this so I
need help.

Have you found the problem? Has the vehicle ben scanned for codes? And if so, what are they? At this point I'm thinking the coil is loosing ground or may be bad. Also check the compression of that cylinder.
Did you figure out the problem? My truck is doing the exact same thing. Don't suppose yours is the #3 cylinder?
Same problem here. And as Guru12T6 said mine is also cylinder 3. Any advice? Tried a different distributor, cap, rotor and wires but still no dice...
I now have same #3 cylinder trouble. Mechanic has never seen this before, a second generation shop owner who is at top of his game! Runs well enough on 7, plug wire back on #3 and it begins to run lousy and then will not restart. Good compression, 185lbs.
Has any one figured it out ive also got the same issue replaced the plugs and it didnt help they was filed but that wasnt the issue it still only runs on 7 cylinders i pull number 3 wire off it fires right up i plug it up qnd it dies like it ran out of gas I've never had this issue before just died while driving it im lost for answers and its not making any sense
