what kind of egnine block has horizontally installed sparkplugs

I have a 350 engine that I recently changed the plugs in only to discover that the plugs were positioned horizontally instead of diagonally in the block.
What kind of engine do I have?
High performance?
Cheap garbage?
Why the horizontally positioned plugs?
Engine IS NOT original to truck.
