Speedometer not working

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1989 4x4 chevy k1500 Scottsdale with the
monies gauge cluster. The speedometer cuts off
and cuts back on when I smack the dash. I have
replaced the speedsensor and had the gauge
cluster rebuilt please help

Sounds like a bad connection in the cluster. Not sure about the 89, but my 94 K1500 Burb had a similar problem and it was the connection between the flexible printed circuit board and the pins in the cluster. There are little metal cups with "wings" on them that connect the cluster pins to the flexible board. The cups would become lose and break the electrical connection. I was able to push them back down a few times, before that stopped fixing it. I bought a used cluster and it's been fine. If it's a "rebuilt" it could still be the same problem, just my .02cents worth. Hope it helps.
