Trans/flex plate/ torque converter issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello, I Have a 1988 Chevy C1500 with a sbc 350 in
it and a 4 speed auto trans I believe. I had been
hearing a knocking that was just on starts. Now it
has begun to knock all the time and it now has I
very difficult time going into gear. If I put it into
drive I have to feather the gas pedal in order to get
it to go. Then around 30 mph the rpms jump and it
seems to slip out of what I think is first gear. I
checked out where the knocking is coming from
and it seems to be I'm the area between the trans
and engine. I.E. the fireplace or torque converter.
Any ideas what is going on? I do have enough
trans fluid in it.

It's known to happen, they only way to check is to take your inspection cover down and look up at the flexplate. Usually once it breaks it breaks but anything is possible.
