2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Check Engine Light

Asked by Katie Dec 13, 2017 at 08:52 AM about the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 75th Anniversary 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee 75 Anniversary Edition.

It has about 24,000 miles on it and has been perfect except for in the last
month. The check engine light has come on 4 times in 4 weeks and I'm
getting very annoyed.

The first time I took it in the dealership said it was because there was a
software update that needed to be done; so they did it and told me i would
be good to go. Then it came on about a week later. Took it back to the
dealership and they said it was the same software code, cleared it and said i
would be good to go. Then, two weeks later (3rd time) the check engine light
came on AGAIN. This time, they said it was a cam phaser issue, they kept it
for three days waiting for the new part to come in. They finally fixed it and
now, two days after picking it up, the checking light came on for a fourth
time!!!

I am at my wits end here and starting to lose my patience. Any help would be
really appreciated!!!

well, I would usually say take it to the dealership- but that doesn't seem to be working in your case- have you done the scheduled services on that car? I guess it's time to find an independent garage with a GOOD mechanic- I emphasize GOOD- or if you live in a big city try another dealership- don't freak out- just get someone who knows how to service it correctly-

I believe the dealership is checking what is wrong with there equipment, which tells them where to look for the problem. It is not there fault a part goes bad. All they can do figure out what is normally wrong to be able to do a fix. I normally would agree with jamnblues but I suspect your vehicle may still be under warranty so if it is, best to be taking it back to the dealer for repair.

Take it back to the dealership as it is still under warranty. If you fail to have success at the dealership, try another dealership or contact Fiat Chrysler.

A Cam Phaser issue could be caused my not changing oil often enough. My Jeep WK Grand Cherokee oil life goes about 8K miles, That is too long for proper oil life, I change every 5K With older oil it breaks down and get;s sticky in the cam phaser, Change oil more often
