i have the same problem, took car to dealer on 2-26-19 and they test drove and agreed that there was a problem.. they found the steering column is defective and would not let me take car home.. kia put us in a rental car and it is currently waiting on a new column. Dealer thinks there is going to be a recall. must be a major problem because part is out of stock and is going to take 3 weeks to get one

What did the problem look like? Right now my electronic steering is intermittently going offline. Also have an engine warning light and BSD system warning. I could have multiple failures,I suppose.

I've been having thr same issue with my 2018 Kia Sorento. My steering seems to "stick" at times. I've felt it, my husband and friend experienced it as well. Unfortunately, the Kia mechanic hasn't felt it. Is there anyway I can instruct the mechanic to replicate it?
2017 Sorento lx. Very same problem. Dealer: "we can't produce the same condition so can't tell if there is a problem." My problem. "Soon as I can break even on this car I have a ford edge picked out" in show room. Now have Kia rep.coming in. Make sure to contact Kia legal dept.make it their problem.
I took mine back a second time and told them to drive it on the interstate not around their parking lot.. They're putting a new steering column in today.
I had same sticky steering problem. It only happened after driving at highway speeds for about 45 minutes. Then it persisted for the rest of the trip. Never felt it on streets. Went to Island Kia on Staten Island service where I bought car from. Dante, the service boss gave me a brand new loaner and gave my car to his head technician with 30 years experience to drive home (all highway, 65 miles). That was yesterday. Today I got a call that the tech felt that exact sticky steering I explained after a while on the highway. They diagnosed the problem to be the electronics in the steering column and will replace it as soon as an ordered new one is delivered. Island Kia went above and beyond to find the problem.
My 2017 Kia Sorento steering has been sticking for about a year. After reading others having the same problem I decided to have it looked at. The dealership ordered a steering column and replaced it. My problem is solved. This is only after I caught a service writer in a lie and had to go to the service manager. But for now it is like new. Just check your mileage to make sure the car was test drove. Mine was was drove one mile and the service writer said it was fine.
My 2016 did it around 30k miles and I brought it in but it stopped before my appointment. It started again and I brought it in at around 55,000 miles but the dealer couldn't get it to do it at the time of the visit. However there was a technical service bulletin and they reprogrammed the computer. They said after she came back they would have to replace the steering column. Now with 70,000 miles and out of warranty I'm ready to go to battle to get it replaced under warranty but as it has been doing it for about a month. The dealership checked it out today that was sticking... And because of my previous visit I think I'll be covered but we shall see. Just got a call from the Kia dealer service department. My 2017 Kia Sorento LX was having the same "sticking" feeling as described above. They told me my vehicle was unsafe to drive and they would be replacing the entire steering column on warranty. They are setting me up with a free rental.

I’m thankful for your posts. I have a 2017 Sorento EX with just over 40K and would have this ‘notching’ or sticking problem for awhile and just thought it to be quirky for this vehicle, until I started doing research. I logged onto my NTHSA account and found some some entries of this problem, none of which the posters report having the satisfaction of replacing the column. I took my vehicle in and the local tech and his manager both drove and were able to feel the problem. The problem right now is with KIA and the local rep says it was NOT BAD enough to replace the column. KIA has a TSB # CHA060 (Rev 5-7-5-2019) describing the testing and replacement. The NHTSA # relegated to this problem is 10163445. My fight is not over yet. If this rep doesn’t change KIA’s stance, I’ll be escalating the complaint and offering to let the rep drive his family around on the highway for a couple weeks in my Sorento. I like the car, but......
2018 kia sorrento at 30k miles. steering float especially around curves over 50 mph. Took to kia and told couldnt replicate. asked for kia consumer legal number. Also said my pasenger will record on phone video and then share that video. Amazingly another test drive and would not let us drive home. gave rental and ordered new column under warranty.. There is a major issue kia mujst address.
Got a new steering column August 10, 2020 after putting up with the problem for three years. The final straw is when the steering locked up with drive on a straightaway. My dealer said there was a bulletin on the matter put out about six months ago. A processor in the column puts out incorrect codes to the steering components.
We have a 2016 Sorento SXL that is exhibiting the very same issue; I’ve tried to ignore it, but it’s so annoying & could definitely turn dangerous. Unfortunately, we’re about 8k miles out of warranty so we’ll see what the dealership is willing to do to keep us safe. I’m just dumbfounded that there’s no recall based on the number of complaints regarding the sticky steering issue!
I have a 2017 Sorento LX with the same steering issue. It's like the wheels are stuck in a groove in the road and I have to exert pressure to get the steering wheel to move. This results in over correction and a zig zag motion. I noticed it about 2 years ago and had the tires rotated and alignment done which did nothing to improve the issue. It occurs at highway speeds when trying to maintain a straight direction. It can be described as the wheel getting stuck or sticking in a position. I finally was frustrated enough to bring it to a dealer where it is now to be diagnosed. Waiting to hear what they find and will post an update once determined.
This is a follow up to my post 5 days ago regarding the "sticky" steering issue with my 2017 Sorento LX. The service department at the dealer test drove my car and was able to experience the steering issue. They even drove similar cars on the lot to compare to mine. It was diagnosed as needing a new steering column. Since the car is 5 years old, it wasn't covered under manufacturer warranty. Luckily I initially purchased a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty which did cover the repair with no deductible. The steering column was 1,756.00 and labor was 299.50. With tax the total was 2,165.00. I dropped my car of on a Thursday. The car was diagnosed, part was ordered and received and repair made by the following Tuesday. Service adviser told me he has seen 2 or 3 other cars with this issue over the last 18 months. If you are having this steering issue, hopefully your car is under warranty or you have an extended warranty. GOOD LUCK!
Been fighting with Kia USA / local dealership. Took me more than a month to get car into dealership. Yes, it has the steering issue; no your car is two months out of warranty. I was in contact with Kia USA continuously since the issue began (Was on a road trip. Almost side- swiped a tractor trailer in a construction zone.) After a lot of technology issues with Kia USA/local dealer, (using tech for work orders, emails to gang responders), car is repaired, but waiting for USA to determine if they will pay.

Why is it such an issue with dealers changing the steering column? I'm tired of being told nothing is wrong...need to have my car aligned!! Dear KIA: issue a recall!!
