Forward Emergency Braking Intermittent

Asked by Panda044 Jul 25, 2018 at 07:53 PM about the 2017 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently purchased a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum Midnight Series
with 7,200 miles on it.  Driving fine for a month and a half and recently, the
Foward Emergency Braking (FEB) would intermittently turn off and
deactivate the cruise control.   It happens quite frequently and it is at the
Nissan Dealershiop getting looked at now.  The thing is, the technicians are
stumped as to what can be causing it, No loose connections have been
found. Tried looking for any related articles or blogs concerning this issue
but none have been found.
Also, Nissan should have considered implementing a way to bypass the
FEB in order to still use the cruise control rather it being inop due to issues
with the FEB.  Intelligent Cruise Control is pretty dumb in my opinion.

Just seeing if anyone has dealt with this issue and if so, what was the fix?

GO in the driver display menu . the one between the tach and speedometer, find the Settings>driver assist>Driver aids>emergency braking. and turn it off..

The ICC will not operate as stand alone cruise control.. It works in tandem with the radar sensor. No sensor, no cruise control. It's like fly -by-wire systems for aircrafts. When a dependent signal goes out, auto pilot is disengaged and reverts back to analog.

Hey Panda044.. I just had a slight... very slight, fender bender.. seems it bent the mounting bracket of the ICC sensor.. so there is a warning light... now Nisan wants 2000$ to replace sensor and bracket and realign wheels. Did you ever find a way to disable the ICC sensor, yet keep the cruise control? I do not like the ICC even when it is working.

David, Unfortunately not. In my case, the sensor was the culprit and was replaced after about 3 weeks. (Part was back ordered) Cruise control will inoperative without the front sensor. Sorry man. Nissan designed it that way to be a fail safe apparently.

Nissan is having trouble with the radar unit from BOCH. I just picked up a 2018 Pathfinder and although the radar cruise control works fine, no AEB. Tested it out after almost getting into an accident. Absolutely no response in driving situations. Next time buy a Toyota. They always work.

Our 2017 Armada has had numerous electrical problems and now this sensor has gone out. During a drive from Mn to Chicago. Then during the first snow fall all the proximity senors kept going off.

My 2013 Infiniti JX35 has amazing radar cruise control and manual switched (on and off) AEB that works amazingly well. I loved the feature so much that we decided to go with the Pathfinder after being told that it came with the 2nd generation AEB. Not at all the same system. What is Nissan doing with such a sub-par, and possibly dangerous (people think they have this feature when it is quite ineffective and possibly defective) component. Toyota or Lexus from now on.

Add me to the list of NISSAN AEB MALFUNCTION victims. Light has been going on and off for almost a year. Own a 2015 Murano SV and the dealer was prepping me that it wasn't going to be covered under the warranty even before inspecting it. Sure enough, the sensor is off 2 degrees, which is greater than the 1 degree which the the max where it will be covered. The dealer said they have been seeing this quite often with Muranos and that something as simple as hitting a speed bump or pothole could cause this. (If this is true, that is horrible engineering). Opened a case with Nissan Consumer Affairs. They called this morning and said they were NOT going to help with the repair. Mentioned that there was damage to the bumper (which is a complete lie). Long story short, I will never buy a Nissan again.

I have a Nissan Sentra under 3 years old at 24000 miles. I am at a 4 way stop. Proceeded to go forward and all of a sudden my car came to a screeching stop. Took it to dealer and apparently the ICC Sensor is bent. No one can say why other than maybe a rock hit it? Now i'm reading that a speed bump or pothole can cause the misalignment. Called Nissan Consumer Affairs and they were NOT going to help with the $2400 repair. I dont use the cruise control so it would just be for the alert that i'm close to another car. I'm thinking the hell with it and just leave it disconnected. Nissan is a HUGE disappointment!
