What's wrong with my car?

Asked by nina Dec 26, 2020 at 12:04 AM about the 2000 Jeep Cherokee Classic 4-Door 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I only have a key, I used the key to unlock the car
and when I went to start it. The anti theft system
went crazy...horn blowing, dash all lit up and it
wouldn't stop. The battery was disconnected to
attempt to stop it but once reconnected the alarm
kept going. HELP!!

What do you mean you only have a key? Only the valet key to open the door and not to start it? You need a proper programmed transponder key to start the car.

Sounds like you have the same security system as my friend's 05 Durango. When you lock the vehicle using the power lock switch on the door or the key fob the security system is set. You need a fob to disarm the security system. Disconnecting the battery will do nothing. Hope that helps! Jim
