you may have to remove thermostat and put back together and flush system them put thermostat back in. if that does not work engine may have crack head

The 4.0L has two options for which way the rotation of the water pump is, make sure it was the same as the one you removed. If it has high miles it is possible to have a crack in the cylinder head and or bad head gasket, but make absolutely sure that all the air is out first.

Possible heat gasket failure, there are test strips you can buy to test this also buy test strips that detect the presence of HC/CO in coolant
