My 1999 ford ranger four wheel drive isn't working you can hear it click in but no four wheel drive what could it be?

are the CV joint in correctly and is it the front that is not going inn because it is a rear wheel drive vehicle

I think it might be the vacuum pump for the automatic locking hubs because the CV joint is in correctly and yes the front is not kicking in when I put it in 4 low I get all the low gears but no four wheel drive. So I think it's the vacuum pump so I might just buy some hubs for it and see.

take the vacuum line off that and get someone to change the diff setting and see if there is vaccum
