My 2018 Chevy equinox sunroof won't open the dealer claims the car is not recognizing the sunroof. Anyone else have this problem?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I brought the car to the dealer to fix the
sunroof. They thought it would be a
minor fix just reset it. The mechanic s
don't know what the problem is and
how to fix it. They called gm and they
don't have any answers either. The car
has less than 2000 miles and I have it
less than 3 months. It is leased and I
have a loaner car and it's been 5 days
already with no answers. Any one else
have this problem?

How long time wise do I have to give them before asking for a new car? It is a new lease.

I hope you see this.. Did you get it resolved. I've had my 2018 for just over a month and tonight I found the same issue. I had the roof open and it closed very slowly. When I went to open it again it won't budge. The shade moves but the glass won't open.

I am curious is your Equinox an AWD which the Sunroof is Standard or a FWD where is is an option. I am having the same problem only with the Shade will not close past halfway. Currently They have flown in an engineer to look at in and suspect a Software issue. I Suspect that the FWD and AWD use different computers and that the coding is wrong .

I had the same issue. They fixed it with a software update. A known bug they said. Only had mine for 2 weeks.

I had mine for 5 weeks less than 900 miles the dealer has had it for 8 weeks. They have no fix for it. GM is telling me it's up to the dealership to decide whether to give me a new vehicle or not. Also if the dealership wants to have me pay more for a vehicle of less value its ok? At this point even if the dealership decides to trade me out for a vehicle without a sunroof I am out over $8,000.00. GM is telling me too bad. Apparently GM does not stand by their products and once you buy one of their vehicles they wash their hands clean.

The car is 8 months old with 7k on the odometer. Took it in for its first service and also complained about the sunroof closing slowly and freezing up. Dealer replaced the sunroof motor, however when I picked up the car the sunroof will not work at all. Dealer has given me a loaner but has no idea what is wrong with mine. Should have stayed with the blue oval !!

GURU TGBBF good luck.. they have had mine for 3 months . THEY STILL HAVE MINE!!! And they want me to pay for a new one. GM sucks. They don't give a rats ass about their customers. I've talked to 3 different "case specialists". and I "can't talk to anyone higher up". They said they will try to fix it one more time and then enter a buyback option. and now GM has retracted their statement saying they will KEEP trying to fix it.

It’s been in the shop for three weeks. The dealer first thought it was the motor and they have replaced it three times. It has also been suggested there are pinched wires with no success. I’m now waiting for another week to pass before I ask about the lemon law. Any one have suggestions

I got mine completely replaced. For you Guru since your car did give out at a much later age (8 months vs 5 weeks for mine) I would suggest you definitely file for lemon law. For me, I have already let too much time past and I was hoping to settle out of court since my car was very brand new. I got offered another equinox with a sunroof and the dealership said that there will be a recall and fix eventually for the sunroof but not for a while. He told me that if i get the sunroof to not use it until there is a fix. I'll know this week if I will be able to trade out or not. If this sunroof does break on me, I will definitely file lemon law once I am eligible. My advice: File lemonlaw the minute you are eligible. t
