Why does my speedometer stop working after driving it a short time?

Asked by cisco0770 Oct 22, 2016 at 02:49 PM about the 2005 Kia Spectra EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

05 Kia Spectra EX  When i start the car in the morning it works correctly
MPH and mileage (odometer).  Once I drive it for a bit (5-30 minutes) it
stops workinng (goes to 0 mph and stops counting the mileage).  It seems
the hotter it is out side the less it works.  Also noticed that when
speedometer is working I can set the cruise control and once the
speedometer fails, it turns off the cruise control.  If the speedometer is not
working you cannot even turn on the cruise control.
