My 2007 Kia Sorento is doing the same thing when I get on the highway it starts backfiring like crazy, I took it to the dealer who sees what it is doing but could not find the problem so they told me to come back when a light comes on...really I drive 90 miles a day to get to work I don't need to break down because they need a light on. It also stalled a while back and I put dry gas in it and that seem to work. The lights on dash also go off when put in gear.

Thank you, but mine is not backfiring (yet). However, I will try the dry gas. Good idea! I should have tried that first. Thanks again! Walt

It's backfiring when you put a light load on it... What codes did you get from the computer? Honestly, in my opinion, it sounds like maybe the camshaft position sensor maybe bad or messing up, maybe giving a wrong signal with the load of the transmission applied. But this is just speculation, pulling the codes and addressing the cause of whatever code you see is the best option.
