Sorento 2003 - 4WD LOW indicator light stays on and 4WD appear to not work anymore

Asked by Junior Jun 02, 2014 at 04:45 PM about the 2003 Kia Sorento EX 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hadn't used the 4WD in months, and, a few days ago, while getting the car out of the
garage, I noticed that the 4WD LOW indicator light was staying on. Tried to switch to
4WD and 4WD LOW, drive slowly a little bit around, and nothing happened.

So, on one hand, the 4WD LOW indicator light stays always lighted, and, on the other
side, the 4WD won't engage anymore. Will be ok until the cold and the snow returns,
but it is a pain to drive on the snow without the 4WD working...

Saw other feedback about the Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM), will try to take a
look at that.

I had a problem like that and it was just adding fluid in the front transfer case to fix the problem

Thanks! I'll look into that then. Let me locate first the front transfer case and what kind of fluid I will need. (hint: outside of electronics, I'm terrible at maintenance) :)

Had the same issue. t-case calls for shell donax tg. (which is compatible with dexron 3 and ford mercon) I filled it up, as it was 1/2 quart low. light is now gone.
