Rattling from the engine/high pitched when rpm's go high

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just purchased a 2003 kia spectra with 89,000 miles. I love the car and the mileage,
but I have 3 things I need help with (as I'm not a car expert).
1. there is a rattling sound coming from the engine, mostly when accelerating but not
when its idling. It sounds like a piece of metal is rattling around somewhere. any
suggestions?
2. when accelerating and making the rpms climb higher, the engine gets a little high
pitched when trying to switch gears. any idea what this is/how to fix it?
3. My radio and interior lights don't work, I checked the fuses and the look like they're
intact. What do I need to make them come back on?

If your driving a manual transmission your clutch is more than likely going out, when the rmps jump high when switching gears it means your clutch is slipping. Also hat squel metal noise while accelerating is possibly your break pads or timing belt. Depending on how loud and only if oh hear it while accelerating and it stops when hitting the brakes. If so have the pads checked! But definitely take care of your clutch and more than likely your fly wheel would need to be resurfaced!
