1996 kia sportage 2.0 -is this an interference engine

technically the answer to your question is yes it is an interference motor. but in my experience as a kia tech i have seen many of these belts break and after replacing the belt it fires right back up and runs fine.so even though kia says it is an interference motor i dont think it is. i have never had one in my experience bend valves from a timing belt failure
