a light came on on my dash at the bottom and it looks like a horse shoe with a
line through it

I would suggest opening the owners manual to Page 128. Does the symbol have a TC in it? That means you turned off the traction control system off by pressing and releasing the TCS StabiliTrak button. Press the button again to turn it on, and the light should go off. If you don't know where the button is, it's in the owners manual page 236. The left button above the gear shifter.
