Passenger Window Ghost Stoppage on the Way Up!

Asked by James Mar 11, 2020 at 12:01 AM about the 2018 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My passenger side window, which, when controlled from the drivers side switch will not always go all the way up the first time the button is pressed.

It will only go up about 4/5's of the way, and then down to 2/5's.
Try again, goes back to 4/5's of the way up, and then down to 3/5's.
Try yet again, goes back to 4/5's and then random lower spot.
I have gone a small bit at a time, and once I get to the 4/5's or so mark, it goes back down.
Eventually it will go back up.

Sometimes I literally have to put the windshield wipers on or a blinker, which I don't think has an effect, but after about 30 seconds of this comedy of errors I try to get creative.

Sounds like the window regulator is faulty . Also it could be the switch. Is the vehicle still under warranty? If not, take the inner door panel off and see what is stopping the window from fully going back up.

Oh geez...just reset the auto-function: hold PASSENGER door window switch fully upward until window fully closes, holding button upward for two full seconds. Then LOWER window by depressing same button FULLY until open and holding same buttom down for 2 sec. Then do the same with the driver's window if necessary. The windows will operate normally. Every owner has learned this trick, which is necessary after any battery change or jump- start. Cheers.
