Suburu outback 2018
Asked by GuruX133G Nov 01, 2018 at 10:10 PM about the 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
We own a 2018 Outback with about 15000 miles.
We just received the letter extending warranty on
the CV T for 100000 miles or 10 years. Suburu has
offered us a fair buyback deal for another reason.
We were considering turning their offer down
because the problem was fixed and everything
seems to be working. We have a 0% loan and do
not want to finance at a higher rate. However this
CVT issue is making me reconsider the buyback
offer. Please help...what is your advice?

The Subaru CVT is not as bad as some CVT's but this is your choice. Keep in mind that if the CVT fails after the warranty runs out it is around 8 grand for a new one or a few thousand for a used one.
How did you manage a buy back offer? I sure tried on my Forester that needed two new engines.
The dealership where we purchased the Outback and especially the service manager were very helpful. The service manager helped me forward all of our service records to Subaru. We were assigned a senior rep to handle our case. They basically offered our money back minus 35 cents a mile for usage. I did stay on top of the situation by communicating often.
So you would be paying around 5 grand for the 15,000 miles you drove it? Do you also lose the sales taxes you paid?
No we do not because the total buyback is close to what we paid just minus the 5000 for usage. The car is working great now and we have 0% interest. We had decided to keep the car because of the 0% interest but this new information on the transmission is scaring me. They problems were electronic with the GPS / radio/ maps unit having to be replaced twice, a window that would not roll up, and a door lock. What would you do?
