2018 Honda Accord sport 1.5T loud humming sound

So what was it? Mine is doing the same thing but all the deal says that its normal. I know it's not because it never did it before.

I have the same issue. My 2018 has 4600 miles. Seems to be more of a problem when the vehicle is cold.

I'm taking it to the dealership next week. Hoping to hear some good news. I saw somewhere else that it might require a hardware upgrade but Honda was backfilled with the parts. It's also cold here (30 degrees F to mid 60s) so that might be why it's making the sounds.

My brand new 2019 Accord is doing the same thing. When below 40 degrees, the hum starts in about 1-2 minutes of driving and increases in intensity. It completely stops when the vehicle comes to a stop, but starts back up as soon as the vehicle is moving again. On the highway, the hum goes away with a fast acceleration, but then comes back after settling into cruising speed. The sound disappears after about 20 minutes of driving. Dealer acts as if they have never heard of such a thing.

My dealer told me it is the turbo - but if I open the window - it stops. It also stops once the vehicle comes to a stop but I don't think it's the turbo if it stops as I open the window a crack

It's definitely the active noise cancelling system. When the window is opened, it deactivates the ANC, which is why you don't hear the hum anymore. The dealer told me that Honda is actively looking for a fix and will let me know when a fix is available. Who knows when that will be. One solution is to ask to get the ANC disabled - that will 100% stop the humming sound. The bad thing about this is that you'll also not get the benefits of having ANC on (aka lots of road noise).

I have the same problem with my 2019 Accord Sport 2.0 T. I bought it 12/1/18 and it started the day after I brought it home. Dealer said Honda engineers are working on it but so far no fix. It does go away with a crack of the window or sun/moon roof. Very loud and very annoying The service tech warned me that it may take awhile to get a fix figured out.

Yes my brand new 2019 Accord LX is doing the same humming when on slow speed and if touched the window switch it goes away . It should be a class action against Honda . Taking mine to dealer this weekend

Humming goes away when you crack one of the front windows, if you opened the back windows the sound won’t go away. Also when the sound starts if you switched the gear to neutral the sound will go away , once u switch back to drive noise will start again . Took my car to honda nostrand they talkjng like they never heard about thia problem before and gave me the car back saying no problem with it !

Disconnecting anc behind glovebox fixes. Imo no increase in road noise. Also eliminates active sound control (fake engine noise) 2.0t sounds better without imo

I have a 2018 Accord Ex-L and it does the same thing. The humming noise is there when I start the car and goes away after 30-40 min of driving. Since is usually happens in the cold weather, it has something to do with the engine needing time to heat up. I also hear rattles from at least 4 different places in the car. The dealer says he can't hear it at all (or acts like it). Funny (and appalling) thing was that when asked to fix it, they took me on a test drive in another 2018 accord which had more rattles than mine and said that as my car does not have such higher noises, I should not be bothered by it (like hell I won't be bothered!). I paid $30000 for the car and facing all these issues while my roommate got a Hyundai Sonata for $20000 and has no problems at all. Nevertheless, it is really bad on the part of Honda to sell such substandard cars to its customers. I for one, am never buying a Honda car again!

I am so glad I found this, I thought I was losing my mind! I just bought a 2019 Accord Sport 1.5L with a manual transmission a week ago and the past two mornings, I have heard this really loud humming noise...like REALLY loud...while driving down my street in 2nd and 3rd gear. When I stop at the stop sign and shift to neutral, it stops completely. Seems to go away after 5 minutes or so of driving, once the engine temp warms up (outside temps have been in the upper 30s/lower 40s.) I’m going to crack my front windows tomorrow while driving to see if that makes the noise stop!

I just bout a 2019 sport 2.0 AT and after a week of having the car I had the same issue, i noticed it gets worse when it’s colder and only during my initial drive of the day unless it’s really cold out (10 degrees). Any time I rolled down either front window, sunroof, or got to a stop the noise stop. It honestly wasn’t to bad bc it didn’t get as loud others said but of course I still took it to the dealer. I read up and found a guy stating replacing the anc didn’t work and but the dealer recommended the noise cancellation michrophone. When I took my car to the dealer today, I told the everything I know including the noise cancellation microphone. I got a call from the dealer that they weren’t able to recreate the noise but called Honda and were told they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix, but replacing the noise cancellation microphone resolved the issue for half the people who reported the issue. So they asked me to wait a few weeks and call again to see if Honda has a fix but if not they will replace the microphone. I’ll keep you guys updated

I am having the same problem with my 18 hybrid so it defiantly isn't the turbo. Took it to the dealership last week and they said it should go away when the car warms up. Told them that isn't true at all. I have even had it happen when parked! I uploaded a video of it. If I turn off the climate control system it will stop, but start back up when you turn it on. I tap the sunroof switch a hair open to stop the noise in the cold

I have a 2018 Accord with the same problem..It only happens when the outside temp is below 38 degrees. Its a crazy droning sound..It starts out low and gets louder and louder then stops for a few seconds and starts all over again the same way. It also abruptly stops when you come to a complete stop for a light or a stop sign. I also put the car in neutral and coasted and that has no effect on the noise. Speeding up or slowing down also have no effect. After about 7 or 8 minutes it goes away. This is my eighth Honda accord and the only one that I have ever had a problem with...

Most of the issues described above is definitely the ANS or noise cancelation feature. Brand new 2018 accord, started within the first week of driving and I did the same thing as many others, made a video, brought back to the dealership. They tried one fix. Didn't work. Got GM and service manager involved. Service manager was helpful. They had Honda engineers trouble shoot with him and his team. They all agreed it was the ANS. They disabled it but its now going on a year with no fix. Even though every time i check in with the service manager more and more cars are coming in with the same issue. Just to clarify above. Disabling the ANS did make the humming / feedback noise go away but the feature is suppose to reduce the cabin noise while driving. So now the cabin noise is loud but it is better than that humming noise.

It's been some time since everyone has logged in their comments. I've been having the same problem. Started the second day I purchased the car (2018). I brought it in 2 times and the technicians said that they didn't hear anything - and it was plain as day. I took one out for a ride with me - and in 1 minute the car crescendo'd from a slight hum to a loud tone - and then a POP - and then silence.... the tech was clueless. They kept the car for a week and said they weren't able to reproduce the noise.... that was a bunch of BS.... any way - does anyone know if a Honda finally rolled out a solution to the problem? Between the loud hum and the reduced number of miles per gallon (started at 44 - now down to 34.7), I think I purchased a lemon of an automobile. Anyone want to purchase a 1 year old Honda Accord Hybrid??? I have one for sale!!

All, After several attempts by Honda to fix our 2018 Accord Hybrid the ANC noise is still there. Corporate Honda closed my case over a year ago saying it was fixed. Fix was to changed out microphones etc, etc, etc. I can STILL reproduce the noise @ 51-52 mph and make it stop by opening a window. Go figure, this is just one of the issues seen from day one. Second issue was AC quit @ 2000 miles, they shotgunned the fix (2 Hoses, compressor) final fix was o-ring on firewall where freon was leaking. The new compressor makes a ball bearing rattle noise when initial start up. This fight is NOT over. Third issue Windshield stress crack from going over speed bump in parking lot 1 mph. Honda covered. My notes are more extensive than this writing, love the way car rides and handles just sad we have had these issues with a $30k brand new car. Not to mention how much time waste I've invested with dealership making sure they did not push me away with a "NO FAULT FOUND" answer by technician and Service Manager. Raleigh, North Carolina

So what it is with the colder weather and the ANC making the humming noise? I had the humming noise last winter/Spring (Feb - April 2019). By the time the temps were consistently in the 50s (end of April/May) and then all summer long, NO NOISE!! It was wonderful!! Now that the temps have been consistently in the 30/40s the past few weeks, the humming noise has started back up. Very frustrating. This winter might be the one that drives me to remove half the dash, go in behind the glove box and physically unplug the ANC module. I'd rather hear road noise than that hum.

I’ve had the same problem since the day I bought my 2018 Accord. The noise went away in the summer, but is now back with a vengeance. Dealer confirms it’s the ANC, but they’re not sure they can fix it. Cracking the sunroof ever so slightly makes the noise go away.

I have a 2019 accord hybrid purchased July 2019. It has a howling mostly between 50-55 mph, sometimes slower but never faster. Dealer per Honda replaced the rear microphone and claimed it was clear, it is not! Also my fuel millage has fallen from 50.4 to 34.2 in 6 mo. granted it's winter here, but that's a 32% drop. If I don't get some answers soon it might time for a lawyer.

Problem Solved Thank you all for your posts. I was having the same issueS with my 2018 Accord Hybrid: didn’t happen in warm weather, sweet spot around 53mph, went away at crack of window... My dealer said he couldn’t find any service bulletins on this. I referred him to this site and he did some more digging. Results were, they replaced the middle and rear microphone and the issue is resolved.

Same issue here. 2019 accord hybrid. Low to then unbearable high noise. I’m going to try rolling down the window and uninstalling the ANC...I hope it’s easy. It’s so annoying!

My 2020 hybrid Accord is doing this. Honda knows about it. It's an issue with the noise cancelation system. Honda engineers claim it's a software issue. The bad news is. They don't know when they are going to fix it and because it's got a safety issue. They are still going to all the cars.

Mine is a little different but I want to make sure its the same exact issue. Mine is a pulsating type low hum from the speakers. It ONLY happens when my car switches from EV to GAS but that make sense according to all the comments because the engine is switching to Gas which makes some noise. That’s not the noise I hear. Mine is most likely the automatic noise cancelling system because it Immediately goes away after I open my window. Yours is interesting. Good video! I hope you find out what it is. The thing I have is so annoying. I’m even wondering if it’s causing heating loss. It’s such a high decibel.

This is not just a cold weather issue. It also happens in both hybrid and turbo models--I have test driven both and reproduced it. It happens between 53 and 55 MPH; though it also can happen in high 28-30 MPH range. It seems to never happen when a tech is in the car; but when you hear it you cannot miss it. They replaced the middle microphone on my car in March of 2020 but that did not work. It is definitely an ANS issue since we can all make it go away by cracking the window--which at 55 mph creates a worse noise. I know some have disconnected the ANC module--how has that impacted cabin noise in your opinion?

when you open the window it turns off the Active Noise Cancellation - which is where the problem exists. Sorts like the doctor telling you if your shoulder hurts when you raise your arm - don't raise your arm.

Hello everyone. It's crazy, why Honda still not fixed this problem? I bought the Honda Accord 2020 hybrid 2 days ago and just now I get the same noise like you all guys. I was scary, it's was like a tank was behind me. After one Minute this noice is disappeared. Guys, the Honda still not fixed this problem from 2018! I think we can go with the collective claim to Honda. What do you think?

That was what I have been thinking the last couple of days. I live in the Pacific Northwest and with the rain I can’t always open my window to stop the ANC. I am so tired of dealing with it and I sometimes wonder if the decibels are so high that it could be causing hearing damage. Does anybody know What we can do about this? When I talk to the dealership they act like they have no idea what I’m talking about.

Hello guys. I opened 3 cases with the Honda, just spoke with the rep. Someone is working with my case and will call me later. I found the website https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?vin= Everyone, who have an issue with the humming sound can put the vin number and claim the problem. I'll reporting right now. Reporting your problem is the important first step. Your complaint will be added to a public NHTSA database after personally identifying information is removed. If the agency receives similar reports from a number of people about the same product, this could indicate that a safety-related defect may exist that would warrant the opening of an investigation.

I just called HONDA customer service and they said they had not heard of this issue I was so irritated. They said I have to go to the dealership and I already have! They said they didn’t hear it when they took it for a test drive.

I just spoke with the Honda, they said I need to stop to any dealership to check the car. So, I got the appointment for tomorrow. Guys, I'm very unhappy with this car. I have a list of issues: 1. 350 miles. Apple CarPlay was not working with the iphone 11 pro max. I disconnected the cable, reconnected it - it did not help. I stopped the car twice, turned off the engine and only after that the carplay system began to work. 12/9/2020 the connection with my iphone was lost while I driving with the WAZE, I lost my navigation. I disconnected the iphone with one hand and connected again – this time it helped 2. 350 miles and now. Music volume and radio sometimes does not working. The volume level when the knob is turned only increases to 11, while the volume itself does not change 3.The driver’s door closes worse than the passenger door. I have to push the driver’s door much harder to close it 4. The battery level charging for 6 bars only, it’s drops to 2 or 3 bars, charging for 6 mostly. One day, 12/9/2020 the battery was charged on 8 bars but for 10 - never. (Maybe it's normal) 5. The fuel consumption is too high. 63 miles – 35.8mpg, 132 miles – 37mpg, 79.7miles – 37.9mpg, 3.5 miles – 20.5 6. The issue with the air conditioner. I’m using auto mode 72 degrees. 20-30 minutes after warming up the interior, the air from the left and right front grilles begins to blow with cold air, I feel cold air on my knees. if I manually change the direction of the air only to the face, then the air is blowing warm. if I return the air conditioner to automatic mode, I feel cold air again. 7. And of cause this humming sound... I want to return this car... it's not normal for the new car.

I just drop off Honda Accord Hybrid 2020 to my local Honda Dealer. The Service Adviser take my car and put all 6 my issues to the system. He explained me, that I need to sigh the estimated bill for $899 for the diagnostic time! I purchase my car 10 day ago! I was shocked! I purchase Mechanical Failure Service Contract and Car Care Service Plan from Fidelity warranty Services Inc. My car have a manufacture warranty! Why I need to pay more for my brand new car? I don’t understand!? So, anyway... I was drop off my car for a few days I think, let see how it goes..

After 2 hours dealer called me and said, that nothing is wrong with my car. Everything is working! The dealer don’t want to get test the car on the highway, because I filed, that the loud humming sound happening when the outside temperature below 40 F degree. Today the temperature was 52 F degree and dealer said, that he can’t change the weather, it was very witty from the dealer. I purchased the car 10 days ago and almost all days the temperature was around 40F degree or below and I don’t know, maybe this loud humming sound will happening with the outside temperature more 40 F degree. The dealer don’t wanted to help to figure out with the car problems. The car was only 2.5 hours on service and dealer did nothing. Tested later with the 47 F degree, still have noice. I'll continue to fight with the Honda.

I'm having this exact same issue with my 2018 LX. I took it in last winter and the techs couldn't reproduce the sound. It definitely requires temperatures below 40, but there seems to be other factors as well. Cracking any window stops the noise right away, but that is not an acceptable solution in the middle of the winter. I called Honda and they were of no help, said I had to take it back into the shop. There's no way that they are unaware of this issue.

UPDATE: I took my 2018 Accord LX back into the dealership. They were able to reproduce the noise and pinpointed it to a faulty microphone for the Active Noise Cancellation system.

Had this same issue since I bought my 2018 accord. Tried the microphone change and it did not work. This month March 2022, I finally got a solution form Handa and the replaced the entire noise cancellation unit located behind the glove compartment. Looks like this finally solved it. Was done under warranty since I had been complaining about this on every service visit to the dealer. FINALLY looks like it has worked!!!
