2003 Tribute V6 no D but reverse, 2nd, 1st okay

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Out of the clear blue my 2003 Tribute 166,000 miles, won’t do anything when I
put it into D.  If I put it in reverse it backs up, if I put it in 1st or 2nd the car will
move just fine. I don’t have a flashing lights No check engine.  I do notice a
whining sound if I put it In D and step on the gas at around 2500rpm. Could
this be an issue with any of the solenoids? Or do I have an internal issue?
