alternator or battery

Hello my Mazda protege 5 2002 just
started to driving slowly and the gauges
was jumping around everything starting
going dim on the car then my lights on
my car started flicking and wen we came
to a stop the car shut down I noticed that
the car stereo had cut completely off and
the wind shield wipers were moving very
slowly and wen we stopped it shut down
and would not start we had the car
jumped 2 times and it started but only for
a min then it cut right back off is this the
battery or alternator

Alternator. if it was the battery the car would have kept running till you shut it off and then it wouldnt start. the car will run on the alternator alone. but if the alternator is bad the car will just die out as the battery voltage goes down.

best to take both down to a auto parts store and have them tested if the battery has a short it could cause it to stop

si I had this car. the problem is that it rides so close to the ground that the splash shield cracks off. Replacements of this part is not Available. Go ahead and tighten the alternator belt really, really tight. It won't slip during a rain storm anymore, but carry a wrench to replace it after 7 to 9 months because it will cause premature wear and destruction of the belt. If the alternator is bad get someone with a "air hammer tool" to remove the 14mm bolt that is at 95ft pounds the tool will fit perfectly under the car to get to the bolt I guess they designed it so you will have to take it to a shop. and after a year or two my new AutoZone alternator stopped working its OK they will replace it for free. If they say it's still good inside the store, next have them test it on the car. With the ac/ all lights and fans running then the alternator will show 11.7 volts which is not enough to charge the battery.

Buying a 2003 Mazda Protige ____ its sitting, with a bad or faulty alternator ---- can it be driven, to my house......approx. 20,,,,,with the bad alternator ????
