Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Mustang V6 convertible and water is accumalating on the passenger side floor after rain. While driving sudden stops and goes you can water coming down like rain under the passenger side dash on the far right.

Just got it back from a shop who was supposed to fix it they didn't do a very good job ha!

I'm hoping someone can say what's going on when I say "under passenger side dash". The shop sealed the back of the top where the clear plastic meets the black canvas with silicon even though I told them under the dash?! Well it probably didn't hurt since it was unglued.

Thanks!

I had this happen to me, the water that is supposed to drain between the windshield and the hood is clogged on the inside. It has to be opened up and cleaned. the water builds up and spills inside

Tigros, nooooo. go to another shop. all they got to do is take off the windshield wipers to get the cover off to clean it and use a shop vac to dry the inside

While this may be a very common issue on these Mustangs...it is absolutely not the only possibility for a leak into the passenger side floor. Yes, there is a drain channel beneath the windshield wiper cowl. Water from the windshield feeds here and exits through two rubber grommets. Debris can get through the cowl and clogs these grommets. Resulting in water standing and overflowing into your cabin filter (also located beneath this cowl). This was makes its way into your passenger side floor. This is a very common issue and a very easy (and free) fix. However, please stop diagnosing all wet passenger floors as solely this issue. It is completely short-sighted and misleading.

Guru31ZS5 is absolutely correct. There are other places where water leaks into the 2005- 2009 Mustang floor wells. The drain grommet at the bottom of the windshield cowl well does get clogged with debris and when the water gets high enough it flows in through the AC/ heater outside air filter vent under the cowl cover located on the passenger side. There are also 10 heat sealed grommets along the firewall that the two part plastic cowl cover snaps into before being secured with the 4 plastic scrivets along the front. These fail over time and need to be replaced properly. There's an excellent 28 minute video on Youtube showing in explicit detail how to do the job yourself. Each grommet costs $5.60... be sure to replace all 10 when doing this job. Unless your car sustained damage and had work done the leak is most likely from the drain grommets at the bottom of the cowl well or the heat sealed grommets holding the plastic cowl. The seam seals as describe above are rarely what's causing your leaks so don't jump to any conclusions before you inspect the other two likely causes I've mentioned. Good luck and stay dry!
