2000 626 2.0 high rpm wen started then gets worm to low of rpm

when i start the car the car rpm's are over 1200 then when the car is at running temp they
are about 650 and running ruph.

that's perfectly fine -nothing to fret over- it's how it's supposed to be

It's done primarily to help the emissions systems, specifically the catalytic converter heat up faster. "Cats" are only efficient if they are up to temperature, and with emission laws as they are, the manufacturer's have to do everything possible to meet those standards. As the man said, perfectly normal.

I disagree with your answers, (unless stalling, poor acceleration is Your prefered state of drive). Is a check engine light on? Take car to a mechanic who can read error codes from a micro tester. The error codes are general. For my repair 1 Spark Plug misfire caused rough idling, poor gas mileage, replacing all Spark plugs cleared problem. Hope my experience helps you with your problem.
