I have a 94 mazda protege and I replaced the battery and when I put the cables on I messed up and reversed them and sparks flew and now my car won't start and I went out and bought another battery

Most likely you blow the ignition fuse and may have also blown the alternator fuse . Check fuses in fuse box under the hood.
