2019 Ram 5.7 Hemi 4x4 fails to shift
Asked by PaultheRamGuy Nov 16, 2018 at 12:08 AM about the 2019 RAM 1500 Laramie Longhorn Crew Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2019 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi bought new October 13 2018. On five seperate occasions has failed to shift out of first gear. Each time has been going from a stop sign or red light and making a left turn, and at night. When taken back to the dealer they immediatley plugged in the code decice but said it did not generate a code. The truck has 2,120 miles on it now. The dealer kept it for four days and could not replicate the problem. I'm wondering if anyone else has experianced this issue? Or have any suggestions?

I have a 2019 with the 6 cyl. It has 400 miles on it. EGR valve just went and on my way back from the dealer it wouldn’t shift out of 1st gear.
I have a 2019 Ram that is a few weeks old, the truck will not engage into 4 wheel nor are the lights illuminated. Had to make an appt with the dealership and will be taking it in next week. It snowed and it was the worst drive ever experienced in snow. Too bad customer service means nothing anymore. For someone who has purchased a brand new vehicle not even 3 weeks old has to wait for the problem to be corrected.
same problem.....happened twice this weekend.....you got problem fixed?
After stopping the transmission shifts to 1st gear and will not shift up, have to pull over turn the vehicle off and restart it to shift in drive done that 4 times. 4wd switch didn't work in the worst snow since I had it, one harrowing drive. Making a appt, now.
I have the same issue. Shut the pick-up off, get out and lock the vehicle, and wait for a minute. Get in and start it again, and if the transfer case indicator light cycles you are good to go.
Anyone know what dealer does to fix? Picked mine up today, it did it on way home.

I’m at a dealership now while the trans is downshifting hard and feels like I’m driving over rubble strips. 3x times they upgraded the codes on the trans but did nothing just hit 12k on the miles. 15 months old
Just picked up a 2019 ram hemi 18miles will nor go in gear sometime was in reverse and it when in to park had this truck less then 24hrs

Yes! And the dealer has had it for 4 days as well and could not replicate it or find it in the code. I also have a serious downshift noise even when I have the gas pedal pushed and it is very noticeable and annoying. They keep saying its normal, but if it is I hate it.

My 2019 longhorn Laramie with 4250 miles just downshifted while driving on freeway Terrible experience I put it on neutral and then back on drive, downshifts have happen too much lately. Also, loud alarm noise when staring. It lasted 15 minutes Any fix on the downshifting
2019 Dodge Pick Up 1500 Laramie gets stuck in 1 gear. This has happened 6X. The dealership can't find the code, so the STAR done by Chrysler let's the truck go back to us. Finally decided to get a free arbitration, which we found in our information on the purchase of truck. Contacted Chrysler and they wanted us to take truck back to dealership. Not doing so, did this dance last month and dealership had truck 4 days, with no solution. This makes 4X dealership and Chrysler have had their chance to fix the problem. Chrysler is getting back with us today to rectify the problem.
I have a 2019 ram tradesman and mine has gotten stuck in first gear twice. I pulled over put the truck in neutral and waited a few seconds and then it was fine. My truck currently has 15000 miles.
2019 Dodge Ram with 5.7, just had this happen to me. When starting to drive, transmission started to shift but went to higher revolutions, then hard shifted into gear (check engine then came on) but then stayed in this gear. Pulled over, put in park, then tried again, but still in that gear (maybe 2nd gear?). Will take it to the dealer (i don't have an obd reader). Will update as the saga continues. The truck has had a couple of hard shifting but this only happened when pretty cold (20's F). Hard shift was similar to a manual transmission if your foot slips off the clutch pedal when shifting. Glad it threw a code, so somewhere to start.

2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn, v6 w/ 17000 miles. Been a great truck until today. Stopped at a red light, light turned green, engine started whining and would not shift out of first. Luckily I made it across intersection(8 lane intersection)!

I have the same issue truck revs up but won’t move I almost got killed by 18 wheel truck dealer says can’t duplicate problem
Well, I thought I was the only one with this problem. I've had my 2019 Ram Rebel for almost a year now and it's done this twice: won't shift out of first gear and when you shut it off and restart it's fine. Looks like Chrysler is ignoring the problem because they don't know what to do, and currently there's no solution. I'll be bringing it in for the Mat recall soon and add this problem to the list, but, by reading this thread it looks like I'm not going to get anywhere. my brother in law told me not to buy a Dodge and now I'm embarrassed to say anything about this problem. Looks like I'll most likely trade it in and buy a different brand.

I just experienced this issue of my 2019 Bighorn w V8 Hemi. I noticed in the display instead of D it had the gear number 1 1/2 displayed??! Was making a left turn from stop, and truck seemed like it wouldn’t accelerate and witnessed the RPMs climbing ridiculously, pulled over, put knob into P, turned back to D and problem went away. I clearly see now I should expect this more as the problem does not have a fix! We should get together and file a class action lawsuit to have Chrysler fix this issue!!!! What will it take? One of getting seriously injured or worse?! I pray that does not happen.

I have a 19 ram 4x4 with a v 6 it will not shift into overdrive hardly at all stays in 6 and 7th gear ram dealer says the motor is too small for the truck only gets 14 mpg on the highway don’t know what to do

I would like to see a fix for this. In the mean time, just hit the plus button on the steering wheel several times (probably 8) to reset its max gear. I have not needed to stop, just hit the plus button and continue driving.
