Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Does anyone know where the separate auto/stop battery is located on a 2019 jeep Cherokee Latitude 4X4?

My 5 month old jeep won't start and jumping it didn't work. Nothing happens, no clicking or noise of any type when I push the start button The remote start doesn't work either. The headlights and interior lights work fine. The auto-lift trunk hatch does not work.

I called the dealer and he thinks it might be the separate battery for the auto stop/start that is the culprit but he wasn't sure where that separate battery is located in the new 2019 models. I did not see it behind the passenger seat like I've seen on youtube for previous year models.

I guess there isn't a second battery on the regular Cherokee, just the Grand Cherokee has that. Any ideas on what my problem could be?

Most of them.have been bad battery. Sit in the car, with doors closed and try to remote start. It should tell you why it can't.

There is a second battery for the accessories, or start/stop system on all jeeps from 2016 and up. Im at dealer now with same issue. Bad design by Chrysler on this stupid ESS System, which in the long run going to cost us more $ changing out these batteries.

There are two batteries in the well. Elie the front passenger seat. O e is larger and for normal operation. The 2nd and smaller, about 1/4 the size of the first, is right next to it. The smaller of the two is for the stop start function of the jeep. My wife and I have a set of jeeps. I. Ok with the fuel economy of the system. But my wife hates it

Is there a second battery that powers the start/stop function in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee? My (A) indicator light comes on and the function has stopped working? I'm assuming it's a bad battery. All other functions on the vehicle work normally.

There are no batteries under the passenger seat on a Cherokee. Maybe on the Grand Cherokee, but that’s a totally different vehicle design than the Cherokee. Can’t find mine either. I suspect that the Cherokee may only have one battery.

We’ve been dealing with the start stop function battery issue for over a year. Took it to local jeep dealer where we purchased and they couldn’t find the battery in our 2016 jeep Cherokee. It is not a Grand Cherokee. It would be wonderful if someone could tell us where it is.

I am beginning to think there is no second battery. The guy at the dealership told me the same thing about a second battery that is going bad. However, I have been wholly unsuccessful finding any info on a second battery in my regular Cherokee as well. I think the second battery is a myth....the owners manual says nothing about it.

Our 2019 jeep Cherokee has two batteries. It’s at the dealers now getting fixed because of this marvelous(dripping sarcasm) system. Big AGM battery under the hood and the small one under a seat. I thought rear seat but might be passenger seat. Naturally out of the basic warranty by a few thousand miles.

In a 2016 Grand Cherokee the second battery is under the passenger seat. Does anyone know how to charge it or how much to replace?

Y'all are getting the Cherokee and the GRAND Cherokee confused. While the GRAND Cherokee has 2 batteries (one for starting, one for ESS), the regular/plain Cherokee (Latitude, Limited, whatever) DOES NOT have 2 batteries. It has only one main battery under the hood. And it must be an AGM batter. If it's not an AGM battery, you are definitely gonna have problems.

The Cherokee (KL) DOES NOT have a secondary battery. For all of you who think it does, please post a pic. You won't find one that came from the factory to run the S/S or accessories at all

2019 Jee( battery Cherokee Limited has only one main battery (AGM). Having also issues of starting and even tested good on a battery tester (battery is 11 months old) but was told by the dealership that for some reasons if the voltage fall just even a little bit below the required voltage the electronics will have some issues.
