If you're asking about playing music from a USB flash drive I too ran into this and the fix is to reformat the USB drive (back up the music first!) But from Windows XP up to Windows 10 the default when formatting a device is NTFS and you need to change that option prior to initiating the format change that option to FAT32 after formatting Windows will work just as before w the USB device plus the car stereo can play MP3's put on it. I put albums in folders labeled by band or artist name the car will see this and make playing music easy.
I answered a similar question hope this helps: If you're asking about playing music from a USB flash drive I too ran into this and the fix is to reformat the USB drive (back up the music first!) I had every intention of buying an Elantra GT this week to replace my 2014 Elantra GT -but every car (5 of them 2018, 2019, 2020 all Elantras and 1 Kona) WOULD NOT play my USB key!!! -I found this answer to the problem... backed up my USB key, then reformatted it FAT32 (even though it was ALREADY formatted FAT32) using a FULL format (not quick format) -then put all my files back onto it afterward and went and tested it in 2 cars at the dealership -again... but first I tested it in my 2014 to make sure it still worked as flawlessly as it always has... and once again (3rd night in a row at dealerships) it wouldn't play properly! It takes forever to read the USB key (it's 32GB with only 8GB of mp3s on it -I've also tried USB 2.0 and 3.0 (both are formatted FAT32) -makes no difference on the new cars -but both play fine in my 2014 GT), then it'll play a bit of it, then the sound cuts out... but the song keeps (supposedly) playing because the timeline keeps moving... I realized last night that the song ISN'T really still playing, but gives the illusion that it is... then the song kicks back in, and suddenly the counter slips back to where it last left off in the song! -then it'll cut out again 5-10 secs later... one of the "cut outs" of sound lasted 1 min 30 sec before coming back in where it last left off! If Hyundai doesn't fix this (either software or firware update or a full replacement of the USB reader?), that means I won't be buying ANY Hyundai's from 2018-2020 models - because THIS IS A DEFINITE DEAL-BREAKER for me! I'm a musician and when I'm learning songs while driving, sometimes I NEED to rewind and play a part again... sometimes several times if it's a difficult part of the song. There is no CD player in these new cars, so that's out of the question (CDs will rewind if needed), and if I put the songs I'm learning on my phone... and bluetooth it to the radio in the GT, you CAN'T rewind while listening on a phone... unless you actually look at the phone (which you can't do while driving unless you want to jeopardize the safety of yourself and those around you) and move the slider back a few seconds... if you try rewinding using the controls on the steering wheel, it simply won't do it... and if you give the control button a quick push to go back... it goes to the head of the song every time... I had every intention of buying a 2019 Elantra GT Luxury edition last night... but the one I was going to get -had the same radio problem with the USB reader that all the other ones did that I test drove over the last 3 days! I can't believe Hyundai would make SUCH AN INCREDIBLE BLUNDER with all of their newer models!!!??? -this might not be a big deal to some, but it's certainly a big deal to many! Unbelievable... I wonder how many other sales they're losing because of this?!
