Have a 89 international cutlass supreme 3.1
,  would like to know if I remove alternator
can I get to the rear plugs?

if there's a motor mount above the radiator you can remove that , tilt engine forward in neutral and reach the plugs

Agree. And tilting the engine can be done easily by attaching a ratchet type tie down strap to the back of the engine and running it down over the nose of the car and attaching it to something solid underneath the bumper. Put a blanket or something over the front bodywork so you don't scratch it. Ratchet slowly and watch that you don't pull a wire or crush something. You'll find the engine can be moved quite a bit and you will have lots of room to work.
