Look for something like this http://www.acpartshouse.com/SQLCart/Images/Large/118031.jpg Remove the two bolts holding it on to remove it andl loosen the tension. To re-install it you have to compress the piston carefully and insert a pin into the hole to keep it from moving. Once everything is installed you simply pull the pin and it will put tension on the belt. Here is a more in-depth guide: http://www.denlorstools.com/autoblog/2009/09/mitsubishi-2-5-3-0-3-5-3-8-water-pump-or-timing-belt-replacement/
Previous answer is correct for the timing belt. But if your trying to remove the alternator belt look below alternator and ac conpressor there is an adjustable pulley located down there. The adjustment bolt takes a 10 m socket and a long extention to loosen it. bolt is facing up behind the belt and pulley. Between pulley and block. Hope this helps. Good luck
Sorry about that. I got the question mixed up with another one.
to remove the serpentine belt, look for the small plastic flat pully wheel, you will see a lobe sticking out with a square in it,use a 1/2 ratchet on it pull belt will loosten,if it dont have that use a 15mm wrinch on same pully bolt push down on ot ,will come off.the bolt turns on counter clock wise,so the bolt will not come loose.
And now we also know how to remove the Power steering belt too
