1997 Ford Expedition. 4AWD light is flashing, but my 4x4 is working.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 1997 ford Expedition. The 4AWD light is flashing and it will not engage and
remains in 2wd. My 4H and 4L are both working. I have replaced the Tcase Speed sensor
and while I was under there added 2 new quarts of Dex to the case. Does anyone have
any other ideas as to what the problem may be?

2 quarts? Was it that low? This is one that will pay to have the dealer diagnose. You could have anything from a bad wire to a stuck actuator - guessing is expensive. I'm concerned about the 2 quarts. If it was that low, you've probably galled some bearings. I hope not.
The Transfer case only takes 2 quarts and I replaced it with new simply because I was not certain when it was done if ever since I was under there changing the speed sensor on the T case. I do not have a check engine light, I do not have the ABS light illuminated and I have 2WD, 4H and 4L. The 4AWD light just flashes and is not transferring power to the front wheels when the rear ones break traction.
Oh good. I was afraid it had been run dry. I did some research about your Transfer Case and discovered that I do not have any background on this particular Borg Warner unit. As I understand it, there is a differential inside the case that does the power transfer between front and rear as controlled by a module or computer. I found several forums about it. A simple Google search. Sorry I don't know more.
That avenue has already been exhausted. This is the reason I am on the forums.
