1992 Stock Eclipse (No Turbo) Won't Shift

Asked by makersmonkey Jul 25, 2013 at 04:55 PM about the 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Long story short - I've got this Eclipse, passed down through the family (sentimental
value).  I lost reverse entirely and 5th was getting sticky, so I assumed a fork was
going.  I left it parked about a month, now it will not shift at all when running.  However,
I can cycle 1-5 when the ignition is off.  The clutch has about 20k, transmission is
closer to 60.  I'm not an expert by any means; I've fixed a fork for 5th/Rev on a 90
Celica, but I did it without pulling the tranny, and I didn't see the same kinda back plate
on this that allowed access.  I'm mainly looking for ideas; I keep hearing linkage, but
I'm not quite sure what that means/what to do with it.  Thanks for any help any of you
might be able to offer.

Check clutch fluid level. Have someone press clutch all the way to the floor as you watch the clutch slave cylinder move. If It only moves a very little bit then bleed clutch slave cylinder. Do several times. Make sure to keep an eye on fluid level as to not run it all out while bleeding. With these older cars sometimes this will help get you back on the road.
