car was running fine yesterday and when he went out this morning to go to school it would not start or crank, it did nothing and he tried to take it out of park to move it but was unable to do that, what could that possibly be?

Shift interlock. Normal with dead battery, works off brake light switch. Check battery terminals for corrosion, that can happen overnight the corrosion will completely sever the connection between battery and cable terminal..yep, all the way to nothing. Remove both cables and use a wire brush or a terminal/post cleaning tool, can be had at the dollar store. There are other ways, like baking soda but that can lead to trouble. especially the rinse on to the ground
