Murano 2019 Wet Carpet - Leaking Windshield or Sunroof Drainage Tube
Asked by NoLoveHere May 09, 2020 at 10:58 AM about the 2019 Nissan Murano Platinum AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Carpet soaking wet under driver's side under legs. WHY?
Water soaked carpet under Weathertech floor mats 2x/this week . HOW TO
FIX? It's due to rain as I haven't used the AC. Ran thru car wash 2x/row,
paper toweled around entire sun roof, floor, and in drivers door. Coming in
from above front left foot rest and puddles at bottom of wheel well. Soaking
wet.
Before I go to dealer, trying to figure out if anyone else had similar water leak
issue with Murano 2019 and what it was. Don't trust dealer - will dealer honor
warranty, try to push off as something smaller if its actually the sunroof?
Could it be the windshield leaking? Suspect its the drainage hole/tube as I've
seen some posts. Poured a cup of water into the front 2 drainage tubes, left
drivers side definitely slower than right side which returned nearly the whole
cup. If it is this, how do I keep it clear? Are there any home remedies so this
doesn't become a problem again?
Afraid mold and carpet rot will be forthcoming Please hurry, more rain on the
way as it's spring and I'm feeling like a sucker for a lemon car.

I just discovered a soaking wet (entire) left passenger side floor and rear cargo area including under the spare tire flap. We had heave rain a couple nights ago so i suspect it's coming in from the sunroof or back window. Haven't had a problem until now. Had car for just one year.

Took Murano to the dealer - there was a kink in the sunroof drain line - luckily covered under manufacturers warranty. Just an FYI > a clogged drain line is not covered (environmental problem). Nissan fixed the drain line and detailed inside but still concerned that there will be issues down the road because of the water being soaked into the carpets for 5 days.
I have a 2018 Murano and I have a leak problem, I was told if I reported back in June it would of been covered, but because I’m reporting it in august it’s not covered. Wasn’t leaking in June

This car is a total lemon. Had the exact same issue. Dealer wouldn’t cover it because it was considered “environmental” like the earlier post stated. Had to fight with Nissan USA to get it covered which they eventually did. Kept the car for 2 weeks to replace the drain tubes, carpet, etc. First rain storm after I got it back and it’s leaking again. I’m at a loss. Horrendous car design and will never buy another Nissan. Thinking of just flex sealing the sunroof and never using it again. Thanks Nissan

My 2017 Murano Platinum started leaking this summer. When I took it to the dealer (at the time not knowing the rear driver's side carpet was soaking wet) to address a musty smell thinking it was the vent or filter or something, he asked me if I left the window open in the rain! As I do more research I am convinced that he knew full well that this was an issue with the moon roof leaking! I have no interest in paying for the unclogging of the drain tube. I am more worried about the mold and mildew smell that I'm breathing in - it's gross, unhealthy, and offensive to passengers. I really love the car and am looking to buy a new one, but not if this design flaw has not been fixed in the 2020 model. Does anyone know if it has?
Same problem with my 2017 Murano Platinum started leaking this summer. Went in first time and they thought they fixed but, did not. Back to the shop second time replaced mildew carpet and claim to have fixed. Guess What it is soaking wet for a 3rd time and back in the shop. So far covered under warranty. They also tried to accuse me of parking under a tree. I don't even have a tree in my yard, Car is always under a cover including while I'm at at work.
I have had so much WATER in my car I'm woried about electrical problems coming up next.

Moonroof just started leaking. Have had the car for 18 months +. rear carpet is soaked and condensation on inside of front windshield. Dealer said the drains for the moon roof got blocked up somehow......Not sure how I prevent that going forward. No issues prior to this or on prior Murano. Very frustrating. Concerned this will happen again. Can this be just a one time issue?

I got a MO 04 and notice flooding on the floor passenger side, tried to look where it's leaking and found the issue. Drain hose got disconnected from the wall where it supposed to be connected as per picture attached.

I have a 2017 Nissan Marano, and Have been dealing with this issue since we bought the car. When we used to bring it to their attention when it was a small water problem on the floorboard, they claimed to have no idea where this issue came from. Finally back in November ,while still in warranty and we have an extended warranty, they finally addressed it and blew the lines out. Now is 4 months later and we bring it after the floor boards were just flooded again. Now because we had leaves under the hood, they are claiming it’s environmental. This is our fifth Nissan all of them had moonroof and not one of them had this issue. We’ve been dealing with this in one form or another since it had 10,000 miles. At no time did Nissan ever mention the issue being drainage lines. Apparently they think that all owners are supposed to clean them out on a regular basis in order for this not to happen, however you are supposed to do that at your home , or pay the dealership $600 to do this. Even if you do pay this or do it, it still can happen months later. This is absolutely a design flaw. And even worse, due to this design flaw it then can damage a ton of electrical components under the car including the air bag system. Currently our car is still in the shop and they want us to pay almost $5000 to replace the carpet and new drain lines on a car with 40k miles and 3 years old, and again while under warranty. We still will be left with a car that tends to back up quickly and dump water into our floorboard, constantly worrying about the car during every rain storm. I’d love to know how to deal with corporate as they already denied this from being covered, and the insurance company blames Nissan for this so they won’t cover it either. Looking for any direction ,even with corporate who already denied the claim. I feel we are left with a lemon and an outstanding Future liability with regards to the electronic function of this vehicle, mold & mildew, and no end in damage while we own this vehicle. It seems to me they fixed this vehicle just enough to last past the manufacturer warranty and then blame it on environmental reasons, and of course not their inferior design, that’s not covered under the extended. Love to know who people spoke to at corporate that heard the issue and covered this for them. We’ve contacted everyone Including our attorneys who tell us it’s a racket to sue them as it requires multiple lawsuits and probably $10,000 just to get them to listen.
Just sold my 2016 Murano SL, for a 2018 Murano SL with very low miles. 10 days of ownership, went through car wash. water spot on top of pillar on driver side, and where the pillar meets the dash. water also came through down by emergency brake pedal. UGH Still under warranty. Going in Monday morning to a dealer. The moonroof closed, how does water still get through?
I just started experiencing this issue on my 2018 Murano Platinum with 17,000 miles. Any advice?

I have a 2018 Murano. Rugs were found wet. After some research found the AC drain hose blocked. I removed the hose and drained the water into a bowl to empty the unit. To unclog the drain hose behind the side panels that simply pop off on the side of the center council. I used a wire hanger to gently push through the clogged end ran some water down to clean it out no make sure it drained. Left the hose off rugs pulled up for a week to dry out. Once the hose was re attached I ran the AC and water was dripping out under the car where it should be. Problem solved.

I have a 2017 Nissan Murano. First time this happened with wet floor carpet the dealership told me it was a design flaw with the sunroof drains. Front only were plugged and cost to drain and clean carpets was $184. They told me it could happen again. Sure enough 2 years later it happened that the back drains became plugged and front, back and trunk carpets soaking wet. So much condensation inside as it is the winter. It was so bad that my seats had to come out and all carpet removed in order to completely dry out. Cost $1200. Dealership has now offered at no cost to check drains and clean on every second service when I go in. Based on comments it doesn’t appear they are correcting this flaw. I know other people who own muranos who have not experienced this issue. I have previously owned several different makes of vehicles with sun roofs and never experienced this.
Yep! 2015 Murano started POURING rain onto seats and floor on the Driver and Passenger side. Floor is drenched every time it rains and now things are rusting underneath the car. Current issue is a rusted out muffler manifold pipe.
We have a 2007 Murano, had an awful smell. Husband starting looking for food or a spill, noticed a pool of liquid under the carpet. My husband a son took the seats out and pulled up all of the carpet. Water EVERYWHERE! We don't know how long it had been there or where the leak was coming from. With my son in the car and spraying a hose on the windshield and sunroof, we were able to see the leak was coming from a loose sunroof drain hose, next two, behind the glove box (thanks to a picture posted by metoyokapala above. We were able to reattached the hose, lay new insulation (from Amazon) with the dried carpet. Good as new.

Spending to much money to get this sun roof repair thousand of dollar and still leaking, this is 2018 junk
I had the same problem with a 2005 Pathfinder and now have it with my 2017 Murano Platinum. If you read a sample of the posts you will conclude this problem is a design defect that could easily be remedied but Nissan seems not to care. My rear drain hose is clogged. I've tried several things to fix - no luck. I have two more tactics to unclog it and my final plan, if those don't work, is to find a nice sunny day and TRADE this lemon for a Toyota.
