Engine knocks when running at 20 to 30 mph up hill not running hot or
skipping..

Those babbitt bearings probably need renewing.

Don't model A's have a 4 to 1 compression ratio? I would think it would be hard to get an actual ignition knock but as Jim says you should make sure the timing is not too far advanced.
