Why did my change oil soon light appear at 1600 miles?

I am at 1600 miles and my change oil soon light has come on.  I will be calling the dealership on Monday.  Why is this happening?

They probably forgot to reset the reminder.

I have only had the car a month and it hasn't even had an oil change as its at 1,600 miles. When I called the dealership on Saturday they said it may have a break in period with the oil but I am married to a retired mechanic and he has never heard of that

Just reset it and drive it. Opening and reading the owner's manual isn't a bad idea either.
