The back hatch unlocks and opens when the vehicle is put into park. similar to
when the doors unlock when you put your vehicle in park, but it also pops the
hatch open. It notifies me on the dash display that the rear access is open.

I would say something is wrong with the switch, latch or wiring. Hard to say where I sit without looking at it. Your vehicle might still be under warranty, have the dealer service department check it out. If it is easy to recreate, no issues.
Check the owners manual, there maybe a menu item where you can select liftgate options.

We did find the access hole but could not get the door to release all the way and cannot move the interior plastic out of the way enough to do more.
