my kia radio stopped displaying clock
68 Answers
It’s a widespread Kia issue. Having the same problem with my Niro.
It has been reported in multiple models of Kia and Hyundai since yesterday. It seems to be a satellite issue as it uses GPS time. Some people said it can be recovered by resetting the display system either by pushing a little button or by ejecting the SD for 5 minutes while running the engine. My 2015 Soul is having the same issue and I tried ejecting and reinserting the SD once but failed perhaps because of short time interval.
Thank you for the suggestion. In my 2016 Optimas, (I have 2) I followed your instructions and the clock started working on both.
mine didnt work with solution above. Update the software going in the settings. will take 10 to 15 minutes; system will prompt that it is same version, ignore the prompt and update anyway. Just got mine fixed right after the update Tested on Kia sorrento 2016 SX
For me, a system reset did NOT work ... but disconnecting the 12v battery (2017 Kia Optima) DID work. Try it (10mm socket)
Find the question "date and time" on this forum, over 100 posts in the past 3 days. In a word it seems to be a satellite problem; perhaps related to an update, perhaps something else. Optima, Soul, Sorento and Niro owners have rung in on this. I got my Niro clock back by hitting the reset button (see picture) with a ballpoint pen. Some have reported success by disconnecting the battery for several minutes - this could prove difficult to do with a hybrid. If the reset button doesn't work, consider turning off the main fusebox switch, located in the center of the fuse box, for 10 minutes. Pulling the MultiMedia fuse for 30 seconds did not fix the problem for me.
It worked for my 2016 KIA Sorento!
I popped out the SD card on my stereo unit for 5 minutes then reinserted it. That did the trick! 2017 Kia Sorento SXL.
I have the same problem...2016 Kia sorento. Went to the dealer and they told me I needed a whole new radio and warranty expired in March 2019. Would cost at least $500. They denied widespread problem!!! I will try all your suggestions. Thank you!

Go into system, press update regardless of having an update or not it will ask if you want to attempt an update. Click yes and let it run, clock will work after. I work for kia, this has working everytime for us
Gerald of York My 2016 sorento clock disappeared a couple of days ago. After much owners manual research and button pressing I tried the Internet and found this site. Great! Fixed it immediately by turning the main fuse box switch off, leave for 15 mins and switch on again. Magic! The clock reappeared.
I had the same problem for the last 4 days with my 2016 Sorento. No date nor time. Everything else was good. Today we pulled the SD card out and put it right back in, date and time are back. Make sure you seated it in firmly.
So, I tried the reset. Nothing. The dealer also tried it to no avail. I tried to update in system. Message "Please check the update memory and try again" . Media file storage space 5.971MB...application storage 3.328MB. Also didn't work. I'll try battery disconnecting battery next.
It just worked in my Kia Sorento.
It works. Try turning car off after reset and restarting.
I tried to update again and mine said to check the update memory and try again with options to retry or cancel. I continuously press retry with no change in message. Dealer would be happy "to make me an appointment with service professional." I don't think so. How do I check the update memory?
I had the same thing. Turned the car off for 15 minutes or so, went back and it works fine.
Kia_master answered 5 years ago
Why would they be happy to do that..? Dealer isnt getting paid to fix the issue
Reset the SD card in the top right corner of the media display. It worked for me.
Today is 8/19/2019. My 2016 Kia Sorento stopped displaying the clock. I took off the positive battery cable 1 minute and reconnected the cable. That did not work. I removed the positive cable for (15 minutes) and reconnected the car's battery cable. That worked.
It work taking the SD card and then doing the reset button. KIA SORENTO SXL 2018 Notice that problem this morning, I guess it was through the weekend, didn’t notice it because I didn’t use it
2016 KIA Sorento Tried reset and also updating software with the same SD card. I now have the "format space" for the time but no digits. Checking the GPS screen it shows the correct location and maybe the elevation - but the time and date are totally wrong. (They look like the original satellite launch dates. :-) ) Since the Clock screen shows "Use GPS Time" that probably accounts why I don't have a proper time. Any thoughts before I remove the SD card, set the time manually and rely on my iPhone for navigation?

Pull the 15 amp display fuse, third row over, fifth fuse down and leave it out for about ten minutes, replace fuse and voila. Then goin to settings and turn GPS time off.
2018 Sorento. Turning off the fuse panel for 15 mins did the trick. Thanks to everone.
2017 Sorento. Taking out the SD card for 15 minutes worked for me. Thanks to everyone!!!!!
2017 Sorento - Taking out the SD card worked for me also. Thanks so much!!
2016 kia sorento 2.0T removing the SD card for 5 minutes worked while I was driving vehicle
Took out the SD card while driving and reinserted about 5 minutes later. When I turned the car off and on again, my clock was back. This by far sounds like the easiest solution out of everything listed. Hopefully it works for everyone.
I had the same issur in my 2018 Sorento SX..I am convinced it has something to do with satellite I went into my set up and turned off GPS time and ejected and reinserted the sd and my clock came back ok

2016 Sorento fixed by removing SD card for 5 minutes, wait for reset, turn engine off for 1 minute then restart. Voila!
I have a 2017 Sorento. Started the car up, pulled out the SD card for a few minutes, put the card back in, gps went into a reset but the clock did not appear. I then turned the car off, restarted it and presto, the clock reappeared.
I did press Reset button and hold for 10 seconds while Engine was runningd with FM radio playing. It worked just fine. Have tried before with SD card, it didn't.
Hi all, same issue as everyone else. Clock disappeared on Saturday. Tried SD card trick and resetting stereo but didn’t work. What did work was turning off the main switch on the fuse board for 10 mins and then back on. Clock and date all back and working. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
Ugh... I miss my clock!!! I tried reset button with a pen, I tried taking out the SD card... The update is telling me "please check the update memory and try again". Might have to try fuse or battery. I have a KIA Sorento 2016.
I might sound stupid, but here goes....where is the SD card that you are speaking about? I have a 2016 Sorento SX
Pulled sd and waited a few seconds, worked for my 2017 sorento. Thanks for the post!
on my 2016 Kia Sorento--digital clock display went out. By removing the tiny SD card(upper right corner of screen) while car was running, for about 3 or 4 minutes and reinserting the same card, the clock and display came back on. Problem fixed. Kia service said that a satellite went out. Completely wrong information. They should have known about the SD card fix.
I had the same issue with my 2016 Kia Sorento. I popped out the SD card as suggested and it worked! Thank you all!
This is where the sd card is located
Fuse box is below gas door release button ,left of your left knee.
I had the same issue with my 2017 Sorento SX. Removing the SD card and then re- inserting after 5 minutes did the trick! Thanks for the suggestions!
KIA Sorento 2016 SX. Tried reinstalling the software - that brought back the clock format but no digits. Tried the reset button - no change. Tried removing the SD card and waiting No change, no clock digits. Retried for longer period. Same result - no clock digits. Hit the reset button and held it for a good ten seconds. (Counting slowly!). That brought back the clock! Now to see if it stays! :-) So, if you are pressing the reset button with a paperclip or pen-tip, make sure you hold it for 10-secs.
Richard Georgia. Today is 08/21/2019. I have a 2016 Kia Sorento. Stopped displaying the clock and date for about a month. I took off the SD card out and pull the 15 Amp display fuse, third row over, fifth fuse down and went to bed. Wake up in the morning and replace everything back and it worked Perfectly. Thank you CheryLann 1969 for your Advised.

I have a 2018 Sorento SX and the SD card trick did not work but I turned off the fuse box, came inside and waited about 15 min, went back out and the clock was back. Thank you to HazHard for his suggestion.
I removed the SD card before starting... started engine, climate status was where map used to be... let run for 1 min. Stop engine, reinsert SD card, start engine... system noticed SD card and rebooted... clock is back.
I have 2016 Sorento and fuse has been replaced and pulled, I pulled the SD card for 15mins and still no clock display! I have not tried the battery disconnect. But it will not let me update the software and there is no reset button! :(

Alicia, I resorted to turning the fuse main to off for 15 min and then back on and restart the car, not just pull the display fuse. It's easy and for me was the only remedy.
2016 Sorento. Opened little cover that is marked SD Map. Removed SD card by pushing in on small release clip. Pulled SD card out. Replaced within a minute. Radio rebooted and then clock showed. Went into clock settings and chose show date. Perfect. I did this all while my GF was driving. Took less than two minutes total.

We took out the SIM card on the top right of the radio, waited 5 minutes and replaced it all while driving. Then we parked and stopped and restarted the car and that did the trick. Good luck everyone!
I have a 2017 Kia Sorento, took out the SD card for a few min, engine running, put it back in, all back up and running clock. Thank you!
Checking back in.... 2016 Sorento here. I decided one last try on the SD card and pulled it out while I was driving and then re-inserted after about 2 minutes. Clock and date popped up after it restarted and I was so thrilled! I can't believe how much I rely on that clock. Didn't have to take the fuse/battery route thankfully.
What worked on my 2016 SXL was removing SD card, pressing little reset button, and then reinserting SD card while radio was rebooting. Engine was running in Park when I did this.
Only thing that worked was turning the fuse box off and back on after waiting a couple of minutes. Note that off was in the middle position for me. Not down, not all the way up. Hope this helps.
2016 kia sorento I have pulled fuse, replaced audio fuse, taken out SD card 30mins, turned off main fuse, disconnected battery and nothing is bringing my clock display back! Didnt realize how much I depend on it! Yes I have smartphone and watch miss my clock display help!
Oh my gosh!!! I was ready to take my 2016 Sorento to my dealership when I got the bright idea of doing a google search of my problem. Lo and behold I found these answers. I tried the reset button and the SD card but to no avail. So I ready about the fuse box and shutting it off for 15 minutes. OH MY GOD!! IT WORKED. I now have my clock, date, and roads back. Many, many thanks for the input. Sure beats having to take it to the dealer. Paula
Thank you all for your responses. I too lost my clock. Started engine, removed SD card, waited ten minutes with engine running, replaced SD card and presto, clock reappeared. Isn’t ten minutes a long wait! Lol.
2018 Kia Sorento SX I tried pressing the reset button with engine running for 20 seconds as some recommended. That did not work, however I did not turn the car off wait a minute and restart. Doing that may have ended my quest. Next, with the car still running, I removed the SD card and waited with the engine running for 5 minutes (timed it). I reinserted the SD card with the car still running and waited for the system to come back up. The clock was still not working. I then turned off the car and open and closed the door to end the power to the dash and waited 1 minute with the car off (timed again), as has been suggested. I turned the car back on, and it was 8:42 in the AM! Clock working. I'm not sure it matters, since it is a GPS connection issue I assume, but I was in my driveway in wifi range. Also, I had tried the pull the SD card out solution a day ago with no success, but I did not give a full 5 minutes with engine running only about 20 seconds. After trying the reset button and then the SD card solutions, I wonder, if after pushing the reset button for 20 seconds if I had turned the car off, ended power to the dash and then waited 1 minute before restarting if I would have even needed to do the SD card trick. So, there are all my details of what worked for me. Good luck.
I have a 2016 SXL Kia Sorento lost my clock, used your advice. Vehicle running removed SD card for 5 minutes then pressed and held the reset button for 20 seconds, put back SD card system rebooted, clock working. Shut off vehicle opened the door, closed the door all fine. THANK YOU VERY MUCH I have 42,567 miles on the vehicle

BOY, am I glad I googled when my clock disappeared and found this thread! I tried taking my SD card out (in my 2016 Sorento) and putting it right back in twice, to no avail. Having seen so many responses saying keep it out for 5- 15 minutes I decided to try again. Third time I kept it out for 5 and that did the trick. WOOHOOO! Never realized how much I depend on that feature until it disappeared! Thanks so much to all who posted! !!
I just went outside to my 2016 Soul, opened the fusebox, turned off the large on/off switch for 30 seconds, pushed back to on and replaced fusebox cover. I then put the ignition key in and the clock popped right up without any issues. It had been off several weeks.
I have pushed the reset button while car is running for 20secounds, I've removed the SD card for 5mins, ive pulled the fuse, replaced the fuse, turned off the fuse box, pulled the battery. NOTHING has brought my clock display back on my 2016 kia sorento, and Kia dealership is requiring me to make an appointment. HELP!
I had the same results with my 2016 Kia Sorento as Alicia, nothing worked. So, I broke down and updated my navigation system for $145.00 and date and time are back as well as the map upgrade.
James did you have to go to dealer to upgrade the navigation system or did u install self? Thanks for letting me know glad to know my Kia wasnt alone with all the tips and tricks not working.
David, Thank you very much for this info, it worked. Again very much appreciation. Helpful site.
